10 Summer Activities for the Workplace to Enjoy

10-Summer-Activities-for-the-Workplace-to-Enjoy

Now that the warm weather is here to stay (hopefully), it’s time to start planning those summer outings for your workplace. But why not do something a little outside of the usual picnic in the park idea? Here are some exciting and relatively inexpensive ideas, for you and your employees to enjoy this summer.

Beach Volleyball Game

Three things always go together in the summer—sun, sand, and water. So why not enjoy all three with a friendly game of beach volleyball? Your employees can bring hot dogs and hamburgers to cook out on at the local park’s grills while working up a sweat playing volleyball. Beaches, such as Battery Park, offer great volleyball courts, as well as benches and a pergola for those employees who just wish to be a cheerleader and soak up some sun. Either way, your employees will have fun playing or watching a game of volleyball, while enjoying the sun, Lake Erie, and some good food.

Embrace your City

Downtown Cleveland is really becoming a hip place. What better way to checkout all the new ambiance then with Lolly the Trolley. During the 20 mile tour of downtown, your coworkers will get to enjoy sites such as The Flats, the Rock & Roll hall of Fame and Museum, Ohio City, West Side Market, Playhouse Square, University Circle, the Cultural Gardens, and Rockefeller Greenhouse…just to name a few. Also, groups receive a discounted price!

Baseball Anyone?

Nothing screams summer more than a baseball game. Not only does Cleveland offer a major league team, but there are also a handful of AAA and AA teams, such as the Akron Rubber Ducks and the Lake County Captains. Surprise your office during the week and take them to a day game: where they can enjoy a hot dog, some drinks, and watch a game.

Christmas in July

Love the holidays but hate that you have to wait so long to celebrate them? Christmas in July is your answer. Take your employees to The Christmas Story House, were they can tour the house, visit the gift shop and really make it a memorable experience that only Cleveland can give you. Even better? Do a white elephant gift exchange to make it really feel like it’s the Holiday season- without the snow!

Team Building Paintball Game

Yes, this is a real thing! This exciting game combines adventure, excitement and competition. Coworkers will be placed in teams; all while playing a series of games such as capture the flag, battle bridge, and siege the fort. Check out your local paintball facilities: a lot of them like Valley City Paintball, offer group discounts and team challenges.

Kayaking/Canoeing

For the more adventurous work group, try a summer excursion out on the water! Kayaking/canoeing serves duel purposes. Not only is it fun for everyone, but it is also a great team building activity, making it a unique opportunity that’s fun, fast-pace, and competitive. What’s nice about this activity too is a lot of places have group discounts as well. Great Lakes Watersports offers kayaks for group outings, as well as other water machines.

Cedar Point

This one is an Ohio favorite. Cedar Point is the second oldest amusement park in the country and has a world-record 72 rides. What’s great about Cedar Point is even if you have coworkers who don’t like roller coasters, they can still partake in other activities such as trying some world famous Pink’s Hot Dogs or swim down the lazy river at Soak City Water Park. Another perk about a work outing at Cedar Point: group discounts.

Cleveland Air Show

Perfect for a family-work outing, the Cleveland Air Show is on Labor Day weekend and hosts a variety of interactive ground displays, educational exhibits, kid-friendly activities, planes and more. Some fun activities include taking a tour of an aircraft, help pack a parachute, taking a picture with a pilot, food and of course watching planes fly around!

Create a Team for a Fundraising Walk

This is a great way to get your coworkers together, all while supporting a great cause and the community. The American Cancer Society and Leukemia and Lymphoma Society are just two organizations that commonly hold outdoor fundraising events in the summer. This is a great opportunity to get a team together and show your support for whichever organization you choose.

Work Carnival

Do you have a really big organization, but can’t find a place big enough to accommodate everyone? Why not bring something to them! You can set up a carnival for your employees at your workplace.  Rent out a local food truck, hire a local band- or maybe someone in your company sings on this side, and set up carnival games where employees can win prizes and enjoy inflatable games, like an obstacle course or sumo wrestling…maybe even get a dunk tank for the boss. This is guaranteed to have your office talking about this event for years to come!

Clevelanders only get a few precious months to enjoy the sun and warm weather- don’t spend it all in the air conditioning. Make sure to treat your employees to a little fun this summer, because whether you have a small group or a big group, there is something for everyone.
