NorthCoast 99 Winners Grew Workforces by 21%, On Average

According to the 2011 NorthCoast 99 Winners Report released by ERC, the 2011 NorthCoast 99 winners grew their workforces by 21.3% on average during 2010. The industries that reported the largest growth included winners in marketing, technology, and architectural services and health and human services/hospitals. Additionally, winners with fewer than 500 employees in Northeast Ohio showed more growth (over 22% on average) than winners with more than 500 employees in Northeast Ohio (less than 20% on average).

Winners reported hiring a total of 14,599 employees during 2010. Winners in the health and human services/hospital industry hired the majority of these employees (9,565); however, winners in the manufacturing, distribution, and transportation industries reported hiring the second largest number of employees (1,863) compared to winners in other industries.

“The results of our analysis suggest that the NorthCoast 99 winners, especially those in certain industries, are contributing to positive employment growth in Northeast Ohio through their hiring practices. Their growth is a natural extension of their business’ success which is largely influenced by their use of progressive workplace practices to attract and retain top talent,” says Marty Mordarski, Director of Research & Membership at ERC.
